Los Angeles widely known as a city of world-class cultural leadership and a progressive attitude about health and beauty. The Vanguard Eye Institute is proud to serve Los Angeles area residents from our luxurious facility in beautiful downtown LA offices.
We are more than simply a Los Angeles eye doctor. The Vanguard Eye Institute is a premier destination for everything eye-related. In fact, it is your comprehensive go-to for the restoration of your vision functionality and clarity. Dr. Christian is one of the leading providers of LASIK surgery, one of the most popular vision correction procedures in the world.
What Is LASIK?
LASIK is a safe and incredibly fast procedure that can correct many forms of imperfect vision, whether it comes from age or genetics. You may have been suffering from poor eyesight your entire life, or just as you got older. LASIK re-forms the underlying cornea from its imperfect shape that is producing distorted, blurry images that require glasses or contacts to correct.
The LASIK procedure makes wearing glasses obsolete if you are suffering from one of the common conditions it addresses. The LASIK procedure can restore excellent vision for common conditions suffered by many people – all of which are refractive errors of the cornea:
- Nearsightedness
- Farsightedness
- Astigmatism
Are You a Candidate for LASIK?
Ultimately, this question will be answered by Dr. Christian during your examination and consultation. However, there are general guidelines you can use that may indicate your candidacy.
- Vision prescription ranges: up to +6.00 of hyperopia, up to 6 diopters of cylinder/astigmatism and up to -12.00 diopters of nearsightedness.
- Over 18 years old and with full ocular maturity.
- Eyesight prescription has not changed for at least two years.
- Healthy, disease and injury free eyes. No glaucoma, cataracts or other disqualifying conditions.
- Medical history and medications that would not complicate the LASIK procedure.
- Cornea is not too thin or too misshapen.
- Informed and realistic expectations.
It is your doctor and your test results that determines your candidacy. This is an important step upon which the successful outcome of the procedure rests. This is why it is vital to schedule an exam and consultation at the Vanguard Eye Institute. You want your vision assessment to be done right to help guarantee you achieve the vision clarity you desire.
What Is the LASIK Procedure?
After your exam and qualification as a LASIK patient, your eye will be photographed with a specialized machine that maps your eye in fine detail. This information is used to plan the surgery. You may also receive a “wavefront analysis” which sends light waves through the eye so the doctor can see precisely where vision aberrations are showing up.
Using an extremely precise surgical tool to create a thin, circular flap in the cornea, the doctor then folds this flap back for access to the underlying cornea. Some microscopic amounts of corneal tissue are removed. This is how the cornea is reshaped for more accurate functionality.
Recovery and good vision may take up to a week, but the full healing may take up to six months. Most people can return to work the day after the surgery.
